A Memoir, Travel Adventure, and Spiritual Coming-of-Age Story Told One Episode at a Time (PODCAST)
CHALLENGE - What happens when an award-winning storyteller walks away from the conventional script?
After leaving behind the familiar rhythms of career, country, and comfort, I spent nearly a decade traveling through Asia, Europe, and parts unknown. I was collecting experiences that were equal parts hilarious, heartbreaking, transformative, and (more than once) utterly unbelievable.
I wanted to find a way to share those tales with equal measures of 'entertainment' and blisteringly raw honesty. To explore identity, relationships, creativity, spirituality, fatherhood, sexuality, psychedelics, and the strange business of becoming a bit more...human?
NARRATIVE PROBLEM - Most personal mythology falls into one of two traps:
1. The creator becomes the hero of every tale OR...
2. Things are kept neat and tidy...and the truth disappears.
I wanted something messy. That held contradiction. That laid a real (and cringingly relatable) dichotomy bare.
And that is how the name of this acclaimed series was born.
Created, written, narrated, edited, and produced over multiple years, Buddha and the S**t became an ongoing short story memoir that aimed to blend cinematic storytelling, travel misadventures, cringe comedy, vulnerability, philosophy, and personal revelation.
Across more than 50 episodes, the series explored everything from culture shock and childhood trauma to love and sex, death and friendship, psychedelics and spirituality, and even one (entirely true) UFO story.
Part memoir, part travelogue, part confessional, and part late-night conversation with an old friend who's seen some things.
REVIEWS:
"Elegant. Grimy. Inspiring. Masterful."
"Brooke says (things) that others are scared to"
"No one, NO ONE, writes, speaks, or tells stories like him."
