MY FAVOURITE THING

CHALLENGE - Create a timeless bedtime story for a new generation, capable of speaking to special children and the parents who cherish them.

NARRATIVE PROBLEM - Many children's stories focus on external achievement: finding treasure, defeating villains, or proving one's worth. But I wanted to explore a quieter idea:

'What if the thing we're searching for has been with us all along?'

The story was originally written in 2016, but I never found an artistic collaborator who fully captured the warmth, wonder, and emotional truth at the story's core. Rather than compromise, I chose to wait.

In 2021, I recorded and produced a complete cinematic narration track, believing the project would eventually find its visual form via traditional publishing. But the 'board book' market was in steep decline.

CREATIVE SOLUTION - In Spring 2026, advances in generative image creation finally made it possible to realize the world I had imagined for nearly a decade.

I adapted the story into an animated short, conceiving the visual style, directing the imagery, producing the narration, and bringing the project to life as a richly illustrated modern fable.

Part children's adventure, part love letter to family, *My Favourite Thing* is designed as both a standalone animated experience and the foundation for a future (human) illustrated storybook release.
