CHALLENGE - Explore how AI could transform static stories and characters into living experiences.
The studio's ambition was to create narrative systems where characters, quests, and relationships could evolve alongside the player rather than follow predetermined scripts.
NARRATIVE PROBLEM - Most interactive narratives face a fundamental tension: The more authored a story becomes, the less freedom the player possesses. But the more freedom a player receives, the harder it becomes to preserve dramatic structure, emotional payoff, and thematic coherence.
And blind faith in generative AI amplifies this problem by creating endless possibilities, while DILUTING the true sense of meaning or emotional engagement at the heart of your intended story.
CREATIVE SOLUTION - I helped design narrative frameworks that treated characters as evolving SYSTEMS rather than static content.
By combining adaptive NPC behaviors, dynamic quest structures, memory-driven interactions, and AI-assisted content generation? We were able to explore many possible paths to preserve emotional storytelling while expanding player agency...
Both with original concepts AND a legendary dystopian IP.
